President's Christmas message

23 Dec 2023 by Paul Smith

Dear Member,

This year has been quite a momentous year for Menston Cricket Club, with the opening of our superb pavilion extension and success on the field for all our teams. We hope you have enjoyed being a part of the Club, whether as a player, parent or supporter just coming down for a drink in our bar on a summer’s afternoon.

Our Junior section continues to thrive with over 130 boys and girls benefitting from coaching and competitive sport. Many juniors have also been introduced to senior cricket through our Sunday 3rd XI and Craven League teams based at High Royds. Our men’s 2nd XI gained promotion to the top reserve division in the AWSCL and in only their second season our women’s team won 4 out of 10 matches in the WYWGL.

As is the case with many sports, running a cricket club is an expensive business and we could not exist without the many volunteers giving their time and expertise to ensure we continue to provide these facilities for the community. Apart from the costs associated with the extension, the need to hire temporary changing rooms for the High Royds ground remains, whilst we await construction of a new building at that location.

In order to help with our ever-increasing overheads we are holding a Christmas & New Year Draw with a top prize of £250. Entry is via the link below – leave a message on our virtual Christmas Tree and donate £5 or more to take part in the draw, to be made at our Presentation Evening on 13th January.

Many thanks to our many donors who helped us fund the pavilion extension. We still need to complete some internal work and buy new furniture so the ‘buy-a-brick’ wall remains open for new names and messages – the link to donate is:

Finally, we are opening our bar in the evenings between Christmas and New Year – please join us for a festive drink and catch up with friends. See our website for opening dates and times.

Wishing all a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year in cricket,

Mike Pratt
President
